Still Waiting...

So I finally made it to the US and this break was definitely needed. I have been anxious to finally see the lot and see the progress that had been made (hopefully) so I could share additional pictures. Well we get to the community and drive to the lot, and there's nothing but dirt and grass...huge disappointment. We head to the model home to see our sales rep, and she states that they now have us down to begin building on June 4th! Again I am bummed because we started all of this the beginning of March. The pre-con meeting was coming up, and I was expecting a date right after to when they would begin to build. Monday was the pre-con meeting, and our project officer Duane was great. He was very thorough and patient with all of the questions Steve had regarding the insulation, wiring and everything else he could think of. He stated that the county has been flooded with permit requests so he is still waiting for ours to begin building. Another conflict was the fact that the sales rep stated that it typically takes 75 days to complete the home, but the projo stated he uses a 90 day window. It's only 15 days, but that's a big difference for me as I am due to return to the states the end of August. If the home isn't ready until the second week of September, I'm living in a hotel until completed. We were able to walk through a Rome model that was currently being built on our street, and the home is very spacious. I found myself visualizing where the furniture would go and what pieces we would buy to fill in the empty spaces. I had to live vicariously through the potential owner until I can do a walk through of my own. Although I did not get the start date I was hoping for, the visit was not a waste. Now we're crossing our fingers for the permits getting approved so they can start on time or a little earlier.

  1. Our Sales Rep was wrong by about 16 days on our closing date too. Our original break-ground date was pushed back but she kept assuring us that our closing date would be the same. In our pre-construction meeting, our PM told us how long the MINIMUM amount of time he needed is, and it was 16 days past what our SR promised. The worst part, it could take even longer!

  2. I understand your disappointment. We submitted our contract in February and still waiting for loan approval. Our SR said she has never seen any process take this long! HANG IN THERE! I have my fingers crossed you will be in by your desired date. I have found that they tend to move swiftly when they began the building.

  3. I truly hope so. I know we didn't start this process until March, but they required so much from us in such a small amount of time while we have to wait for everything else. I just want to see something--some stakes, wood, something! June 4th will be here soon, but it will break my heart if we get another pushback. I may just resort to another builder if they cannot deliver by the time I return August 23rd.
